The idea

  • Once a week for 1 h.

  • Concept:

    • Share article (microbial genomics or related) or a library or something interesting you found that week.
    • Ask a specific question.
    • Explain one algorithm.
    • Practice for a presentation in a conference.
    • Discuss pipeline/software design.
    • Some sessions reserved for CODE REVIEW (see principles and house rules).
  • No need of presentation or anything formal… unless you want it.

  • One session per person? all small things? a combination?

    • Not mandatory but DO COMMIT!

What is the purpose?

  • Become better bioinformaticians together.

  • Having someone to discuss your code with.

  • Learn what other people do.

  • Learn to read other people’s code.

Our principles for code review or any feedback

  • If everyone is vulnerable, nobody is.

  • There is no dark side without a bright one.

  • If I don’t point out flaws, somebody will.

  • Put yourself in the shoes of the other. Let the others understand what it feels to be in your shoes.

  • I am better than you… at something. You are better than me… at something else.

  • What doesn’t kill me makes me a better coder.

House rules

  • Follow the principles for giving feedback.

  • Be polite at all times.

  • If it is your turn, do bring something.

  • If you really need to cancel, say it at least one day in advance.
